History and development

The park occupies part of the old Stony Mountain limestone quarry, which supplied building material to the region since the late 19th century. When quarrying ceased, local volunteers and the municipality converted the land into a community park. Interpretive signage documents the quarry’s role in the settlement and construction of nearby Winnipeg.

Landscape and features

The park’s steep rock walls and clear quarry pond provide a distinctive landscape uncommon in Manitoba’s prairie terrain. Walking paths circle the quarry rim, connecting to picnic areas and a viewing platform overlooking the community and the surrounding plains. The site also offers informal wildlife viewing and seasonal flowers among the exposed limestone.

Community and access

The Park is maintained by the Rural Municipality of Rockwood and local volunteers. It serves as a gathering space for small events and an access point to nearby outdoor amenities such as the ski hill and snowmobile trails. Parking and trail access are available from Main Street in Stony Mountain.
