ENVIRONMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Rockwood Sensitive Area

Select private wells are tested by Magellan Aerospace annually and receive well testing results by Manitoba Environment and Climate Change. Monitoring by Magellan Aerospace continues to confirm the presence of a large trichloroethylene (TCE) contamination plume in groundwater within the Rockwood Sensitive Area. In some areas, the concentration of TCE exceeds the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality Maximum Acceptable Concentration (MAC) and Manitoba standard of 0.005 mg/L.

Homeowners in the Do Not Use Advisory Area (see Do Not Drink Use area map) who use a private well should be advised that their well water is probably affected by the contamination of TCE and should not be used for any domestic purpose, not just drinking or eating. This does not apply to water supplied by a municipal water source or the Concord Colony semi-public water system, which are considered safe to drink.

The Target Distribution Area for notificationis described as:

a)    North ½ of section 25, east ½ of section 35, and section 36, of Township 12, Range 2, East of the Principal Meridian;

b)    Northwest ¼ of section 28, north ½ of section 29, north ½ of section 30, sections 31 and 32, and west ½ of section 33, of Township 12, Range 3, East of the Principal Meridian;

c)    Section 1, east ½ of section 2, east ½ of section 12, east ½ of section 13, and east ½ of section 24, of Township 13, Range 2, East of the Principal Meridian;

d)    West ½ of section 4, sections 5 through 9, west ½ of section 15, sections 16 through 21, west ½  and northeast ¼ of section 22, northwest ¼ of section 23, west ½ of section 26, sections 27 through 29, south ½ and northeast ¼ of section 30, east ½ of section 31, and sections 32 and 33, of Township 13, Range 3, East of the Principal Meridian; and
